A little site maintenance…

a-little-site-maintenance

You may (or may not) have noticed that user registrations have been disabled.  There has been a rash of new user registrations in the past few days, and most of them appear to be completely bogus.

You don’t need to register to comment or to use the Subscribe to Comments feature, and this will hopefully keep any future spam to a minimum.  (Akismet has been doing a bang up job so far, but anything else that helps is good.)

One more test post…

one-more-test-post

I’m testing to see if the RSS feed is still working like it should.

Still some more tweaks needed.

But so far, so good.  (Even though the last post I tried to post went off into the ether and I have no idea what happened to it.)

The plugins seem to be working, need to try to get the width of the center colum moved farther out – the text size with that narrowness just doesn’t quite work the way it needs to for me.

Yes, ads are back in the sidebar and footer – I’ve tried to make them blend so they don’t stab you in the eye, but yes, they are there.  Coin is coin in this economy.  If you see something that intrigues you – do click!  Helps me, the advertisers and  you may find that perfect kitchen gadget that you never knew you absolutely HAD to have! :-D

Coming sometime this afternoon, along with a new theme!  Let’s hope it goes well so I can report on my risotto luncheon.

Hopefully it won’t break everything.

Resolutions busted already…

resolutions-busted-already

10 days of sleep deprivation in Phoenix, followed by a mere 2 days of downtime, followed by 3 days of running around with a friend in from out of country = massive head and chest cold upon his departure.

Lack of any sense of taste or smell has kept me out of the kitchen – I’m hoping to be back on my feet by the end of the week and have some sort of lovely recovery dinner to share.

In the meantime, here is Barefoot in the Kitchen – another food blog that is fun!

Happy New Year!

Just got back from out of town and 2008 is right around the corner, and it WILL be a year filled with food. :)

I’ll be trying to get at least 2 good posts up a week.

Snack Foods

Wednesday, May 16th, 2007

The project for the next week or so is going to be a quest for snack foods. Here’s the criteria I’m working with:

- At least somewhat healthy.
- Batch size that is big enough to last a couple days, but not so much that I am staring at the fridge thinking, “Dear lord, I haven’t finished that YET?”

My usual standbys are a half-sandwich, cheese & crackers, or veggies & salad dressing. All fine snacks, but they’re getting a little old and I’m in the mood for some different things. I rarely eat chips anymore, unless I’ve got a specific dip I’ve got a craving for. (Which is probably a good thing, since they’re not exactly at the top of the “great for you” list.)

Right now, the black olive tapenade & roasted red pepper hummus recipes I snagged at Sanderling have a lot of appeal. Will be brainstorming, cooking, photographing & reporting the results.

On an unrelated note, Add More Wine got a nod from DCBlogs.com yesterday, from the Five Guys post. Welcome to those coming here from there!

Recipe page from sister site

I’ve added a page (over on the right) with links from the recipes I’ve posted over at Cafe Chat Noir. Enjoy!

A note on the adverts

a-note-on-the-adverts

You may have noticed that yes, there are ads on this site. Bandwidth and hosting isn’t free, and every little bit helps out. I’m just using Google’s adsense right now, so the ads are targeted towards the content. I am not actually “connected” with any of the advertisers that have appeared so far – rest assured I’m not getting any kickbacks for saying anything about any particular advertiser. They are also served up on a relatively random basis, so I am not picking or choosing the adverts that show up.

If at some point I have direct/non-google advertisers, I will make a point of letting folks know they are there.

I’ve tried to keep them as unobtrusive as possible (and trying to fix the dang sidebar width so that blends better) so they should not detract from the rest of the site. There will be NO dancing monkeys offering you great rates on refinancing at this blog.

If you are interested in advertising on the site, do feel free to contact me at cdc@addmorewine.net.
