Just got back from out of town and 2008 is right around the corner, and it WILL be a year filled with food. :)
I’ll be trying to get at least 2 good posts up a week.

Before the holidays, I got the idea in my head that I wanted pot roast. Hadn’t had it years and with the winter weather approaching, it sounded like a good idea.
First problem being that I have lived 35 years on this planet and never actually made a pot roast. Mom always did it, I never knew how (it always just seemed to appear) and she didn’t leave instructions behind. Well, time to research.
I pored over recipes, conferred with old school comfort food cooks, blindly wandered the roast section of the market. Today I watched Alton Brown’s pot roast show.
I am now more confused than ever – and have seen nothing that resembles what Mom used to make.
I’m not giving up, but the pot roast may be a January thing at the rate I am going.
Picked up a case of clementines today. Haven’t had them in forever, got home, peeled one up and dug in.
TWENTY TWO seeds later, I was beginning to think I’d lost my mind. I was fairly certain that they were seedless or near seedless, but maybe I was wrong?
Pulled out my trusty Food Lover’s Companion. Clementines – see Mandarin Orange. Looked that up and found, “Dancy Oranges are similar in size and color (and equally rich flavored) to clementines, but have a plentitude of seeds.
So, it would seem I have a case of Dancy Oranges, marked as Clementines by the grower – a Muroc Star out of Morocco. I will be contacting the market to let them know they have been hoodwinked…
